Tips for Applying Touch-Up Paint

Our team at South County Hyundai of Gilroy has a goal to help our consumers keep their vehicles in good shape. Scratches can make the exterior of your vehicle look unsightly, but they can be easily repaired. Follow these tips the next time you apply touch-up paint to your vehicle.

First, you will need to find a touch-up color that matches the color of your vehicle. You can look on the dash near the VIN number, the firewall, radiator core support, or owner's manual to find your vehicle's color code. It is also important that you check to see if the scratch also has a dent. If you can see the metal, and there is also a deep dent, it is better to have it repaired by a professional.

Be sure to clean the surface with warm soap and water before you begin sanding, and use a sand paper that is at least 220 grit. If the scratch is deep, then you should use a primer and sand paper that is 600 grit or higher when you are sanding the primer.
